Certain
actors will forever be identified with their most indelible films. You
can't think of VIVIEN LEIGH without thinking of 'Gone With the Wind.'
You can't picture HUMPHREY BOGART without picturing 'Casablanca.' And
no matter how many more movies she makes in her lifetime, KATE WINSLET
will always be associated with 'Titanic.'
In career terms,
her ship literally came in when she played the part of Rose, though the
British-born beauty had already received a prior Academy Award nod
for her performance in 'Sense and Sensibility' two years earlier. Still,
it was Kate's heartbreaking romance
with LEONARDO
DiCAPRIO that will endure in the memories of moviegoers for decades
to come.
The 24-year-old
beauty was born on October 5, 1975 in England. By the time she was 11,
the plucky performer was already attending drama school. Perhaps that's
not surprising since her father ROGER WINSLET is an actor, and her siblings
ANNA, BETH and JOSS have all been involved in the performing arts.
According
to the Internet Movie Database, Kate's first professional "gig" was dancing
with the Honey Monster in a Sugar Puffs cereal commercial. While still
in her teens, Winslet co-starred in two British TV series, "Dark Season"
and "Get Back."
